The Moose Monarchs started off their week with a bang, sweeping a doubleheader against the visiting Billings Scarlets Monday at Jeffries Field.

Reese Whelen had RBI singles in back-to-back innings of a 12-4 win to start the night, then threw three innings as his team rolled to a 12-3 victory in the second game.

Scarlets pitchers hurt themselves all evening. Two walks and a hit batter let to a five-run Monarchs sixth inning in the opener. In the second game, the Scarlets either walked or hit batters to force four runs in a 10-run Medicine Hat second frame.

Heyden Harrison went all seven innings to win the first game, striking out seven and letting up five hits. Jaden Schwindt had 4 RBI and Connor Drever went 3-for-3.

Drever added a 2-for-2, 3 RBI second game for a near-perfect day at the plate, while Jayden Ball was 2-for-3 with 2 RBI and three runs. Joel Herron threw four innings of one-hit ball in relief of Whelen.

Medicine Hat was coming off a one-win, three-loss weekend at a tournament in Lethbridge on the weekend. They host the Scarlets in one more game today, 2:30 p.m. at Jeffries.
