Mavs drop fourth straight

The Medicine Hat Mavericks took the Western Canadian Baseball League leading Weyburn Beavers into a deadlocked ninth inning, but fell victim to Jack Barrie’s 8-6 walk-off homer for their fourth consecutive loss.

Mavericks reliever Flynn Ridley settled for the loss after allowing the winning two runs on three hits with three strikeouts over the final two complete innings.

Weyburn’s Caleb Link collected the victory after holding Medicine Hat to one run on four hits with three strikeouts through 3 1/3.

John Velasco led the Mavericks with 2 RBI in a 3-for-4 performance while Nolan Rattai was 3-for-4 with two runs and Freddy Walker was 2-for-3 with 1 RBI and a run.

Barrie and Dominic Sere both had 2 RBI for the Beavers, while Justin Summers had 1 RBI in a 2-for-4 outing.

The Mavs close out their three-game set in Weyburn Saturday and return to Athletic Park Sunday to host the Moose Jaw Miller Express.
