Monsignor McCoy’s Colts rebounded after a big loss to deliver a one-sided decision of their own Thursday.

At their home diamond, the Colts’ baseball team beat Eagle Butte 12-2 in six innings due to the mercy rule. It came two days after a 20-2 loss to Hat High.

After the Talons put up a run in the top of the first, McCoy struck for five in the bottom half including a two-run single from Jayden Ball and an RBI double from Jaden Schwindt.

The duo added run-scoring at-bats in the second, and the rout was on. The game ended with a Peyton Cox sacrifice fly in the sixth that made it a 10-run lead.

Ryder Krauss and Chance Davis each went 2-for-3 for Eagle Butte, while Tyler Bang was their lone pitcher of record.

Ball finished 3-for-3 with 3 RBI, Kayden Berndt was 2-for-2 with three runs and 3 RBI, and Ty Brooks allowed just six hits in his six innings on the mound.

As for the Mohawks, they’ve had a topsy-turvy week as well. After delivering the big win over the Colts Monday, Hat High lost 13-1 to Vauxhall at Jeffries Park Thursday night.

The Vikings weren’t charged with an error, scored three runs in the top of the first and held Mohawks batters to just three hits in seven innings. They didn’t invoke the mercy rule because they weren’t up by 10 until adding three in their half of the seventh.

Kalem Haney had four of Vauxhall’s runs and knocked in four as well. Brady Howg got the win, throwing five innings of two-hit ball.

Felix Miller had Hat High’s lone run, in the first inning. He also threw four innings, giving up five runs though only two of those were earned.

On Wednesday, the Tier 2 (junior) Mohawks lost 9-8 to Maple Creek in eight innings. The teams combined for nine runs in a wide-open fifth but it took a Connor Drever RBI single in the extra inning to decide it. Drever went 4-for-4, while Red Sox pitchers combined to strike out 18 Mohawks batters. Tucker Robertson had 3 RBI in the loss.
