As hosts for the Alberta Compulsory Championships, the Salta Gymnastics Club sure did show off – in the best way possible.

The Medicine Hat team saw seven of its athletes take first place all-around medals at the Cypress Centre this past weekend, with plenty more adding podium finishes to put smiles on the faces of their coaches.

The event was only for Junior Olympic Level 3-5 athletes, spread out over seven sessions and 14 age divisions. Salta didn’t even have competitors in the first and last sessions.

Emma Flug won the Level 4 title for 11- and 12-year-olds Saturday afternoon, topping the charts in both floor and vault and getting runner-up medals on beam and uneven bars. In the same session, Daniele Hollingworth won the all-around for 13- and 14-year-olds, topping vault and floor. Teammate Jorja Lundquist was second on vault and third on beam to take fifth in the all-around, her coaches noting her scores were personal bests.

In the Level 4 division for 10- and 11-year-olds, Aubri Krassman had massive scores including a 9.783 on floor and 9.725 on bars to win the all-around. She also won beam and was third on vault.

Salta started Saturday with Gemma Snazel winning her Level 4 division for 9-year-olds, taking top marks on vault and bars and silver on floor. Teammate Liyana Khan had the division’s best beam score, a 9.716, plus took third on bars.

Earlier Friday results saw Jordis Barabe win Level 3 all-around for 11-and-older, while Chelsia Cooper and Sonya Reid took Level 3 all-around titles in their age groups as well.
