AMAC swimmers collect four medals at Swim Alberta Spring Championships

The Alberta Marlin Aquatic Club sent 13 swimmers to battle for the podium at the Swim Alberta Spring Championships in Edmonton over the weekend, and four left the pool with medals. Fourteen-year-old Jaiden Riddell swam to a gold medal in an incredible 50-metre backstroke final, taking top spot by a narrow 0.22 second margin. Nick Jones, 15, took home the gold in the Para-Swim 100-metre breaststroke, while 12-year-old Aspen Fetch capped off her first trip to the spring championships with a silver medal in the 200-metre breaststroke and 14-year-old Delrae Vetter earned bronze in the 800-metre freestyle by shaving nearly eight seconds off her previous personal best. Vetter went on to narrowly miss the podium twice with fourth-place finishes in the 200-metre and 400-metre individual medleys. Her effort in the 400 was enough to earn Vetter a trip to the Canadian Junior Championships in August. Other notable efforts included a fifth place finish from Fetch in the 100-metre breatstroke and Ashton Scholly’s fourth-place finish in the 50-metre backstroke. While only four finished on the podium, AMAC’s crop of 13 swimmers combined for 38 personal best times while reaching 30 final heats.
