Medicine Hat News A near-perfect season ended in heartbreak for the under-16 Mud Hens ringette team. At provincials with a perfect league and tournament record, the Medicine Hat squad got all the way to the final but had their unbeaten streak snapped in a 7-3 loss to Calgary Northwest Nova Sunday. Marley Rose, Joren Gramlich and Marin Sinclair had goals in the loss, which came after Medicine Hat edged Bow View Hype 5-4 in a semifinal earlier in the day. Ashlyn Seale had the game-winner in that contest, her second of the game coming with 1:47 left on the clock. Bree Becker, Preslee Starner and Serina Grona had the other markers. Round robin wins over St. Albert (4-2), Bow View Surge (9-1) and Spruce Grove (6-3) had the Hat team confident heading into the medal round. But both Hype and Nova scored first in their respective games, and the mighty Hens were finally felled. Under-19 Also in Calgary, the Medicine Hat Wild also had a rough final day, winding up fourth in the under-19 division. After going 2-2 in the round robin, beating St. Albert 10-4 and the eventual provincial champions from South Calgary 6-5, the Wild lost 6-4 to Edmonton in a Sunday semifinal and then 5-3 to Bow View Edge in the bronze medal game. Lauren Klick was key in both of the weekend’s wins, scoring four times against St. Albert and five times against South Calgary. Mikaela Claypool starred in net, while Kennedy Lanigan had two multiple-goal outings for Medicine Hat, which also got goals from Jada Harper, Cassidy Stock, Stephanie Stroh, Hannah Heidel, Cameron Selwood, Maggie Carrier and Jade Forsythe. 12
