Kendell Kuntz closed the book on her Alberta Colleges Athletic Conference career at Medicine Hat College on an all-time high.
The Medicine Hat Rattlers guard drained four three-pointers in Friday’s 76-52 victory over the St. Mary’s Lightning at the Snake Pit to finish her women’s basketball career ranked second all-time in the ACAC for long balls with 203 while helping clinch first place in the South Division standings entering the post-season.
The performance pushes Kuntz past former Red Deer Queen Dedra Janvier on the all-time three-point leaders list by a single bucket. Former Lightning player Montana Romeril still holds first with a total of 229 three-pointers.
Kuntz drained 95 shots from outside the arc in her two seasons with the Rattlers, adding to her 108 earned through three seasons with the SAIT Trojans.
The former Eagle Butte Talon closed out Saturday’s win with a team-high 20 points while Kiana Mintz added 17 from the bench and Katelyn Rozdeba posted a game-high 11 rebounds.
Hannah Helton led the Lightning with 12 points in the loss, while Emily Wagner added 11 points and five rebounds. St. Mary’s slipped to 13-8 with the setback, though they’ve already punched their ticket to the ACAC championship next weekend at Keyano College.
Medicine Hat (18-3) will enter the championships as the South’s top seed, but with just four points separating first from fifth in the North, the Rattlers will have to wait until Saturday night to find out who they’ll face first Thursday.
Men’s basketball
The Medicine Hat Rattlers men’s basketball team officially punched their ticket to the post-season with a 90-72 victory over the St. Mary’s Lightning on Friday night at the Snake Pit.
Kieron Burgess led the way for Medicine Hat yet again with a double-double performance – putting up 24 points and adding 23 rebounds – while Jaamel Slack added 22 points and seven boards.
Cordell Minnifee led the Lightning with 31 points and seven boards in the loss, leaving St. Mary’s at 6-15 to end the regular season.
The win closes out Medicine Hat’s regular season at 13-8. While they currently sit second in the ACAC South, their official place in the standings is yet to be determined. The 12-8 Red Deer Kings could still pass Medicine Hat with win against the 2-18 Briercrest Clippers Saturday.
The Rattlers will kick off the ACAC championship Thursday at Lakeland College.
