Mads Søgaard was unstoppable on Friday night at Angel of the Winds Arena.
The Medicine Hat Tigers goaltender turned away 41 shots to kick off his team’s three-game weekend with their third consecutive victory in a 1-0 nailbiter over the Everett Silvertips.
The U.S. Division-leading Silvertips pushed the early pace and peppered Søgaard with 17 shots in the opening frame, but they were unable to get anything past the 6-foot-7 Dane and found themselves starting down a deficit before too long.
James Hamblin snapped the scoreless stalemate 36 minutes into the game when he won a faceoff to open a late second-period power play then redirected a hard pass from Ryan Jevne behind Silvertips netminder Dustin Wolf.
The opportunistic tally left Medicine Hat nursing a narrow lead after 40 minutes despite being outshot 35-21.
Everett pressured for an equalizer in the third, but Søgaard had an answer for every shot in the period and skated away with his second shutout in three straight starts.
Medicine Hat improved to 30-18-2-2 with the victory, becoming the first team in the Central Division to reach 30 wins on the season. The Tabbies currently sit second in the Central and trail the division-leading Edmonton Oil Kings (29-16-4-4) by two points with a game in hand.
Wolf settled for a 28-save loss, dropping Everett to 37-13-1-1.
The Tigers close out their four-game road trip with a Saturday night matchup against the Seattle Thunderbirds and a Sunday evening tilt with the Portland Winterhawks.
