Medicine Hat News It’s only the third week of the local South East Zone Volleyball League season and we’ve already got a candidate for match of the year. At Bow Island Wednesday, Senator Gershaw’s varsity boys came from two sets down to beat Hat High 3-2 (20-25, 21-25, 25-23, 25-11, 15-12). Already considered one of the frontrunners for both the league title and a 2A provincial berth, the Gators upended their 4A counterparts. Head coach Andy Phillips said in an email that his team “started off slow but gathered momentum as the match went on.” Phillips credited monster games from both middle Thomas Smith and left side Blayze Uchikura for helping turn the tide. No other local results were received by press time. The SEZVL schedule continues next Tuesday and Wednesday. 7
