Following the trend of sports teams abandoning potentially racist undertones, the Swift Current Indians are no more.

The Western Major Baseball League team will now be known as the 57’s.

The new name and logo, sporting orange and green colours and a baseball with wheat-patterned stitching, were unveiled Tuesday.

Their new name represents how many years the team was known as the Indians.

Numerous organizations in North America have either been under scrutiny for or chosen to change their logos and mascot in recent years. While the Cleveland Indians and Washington Redskins remain, many high school and college teams have moved away from potentially offensive branding.

Swift Current won the WMBL title this past season, sweeping all three of their series including the finals over Edmonton.
