Busy week in hoops

Hat High’s boys basketball teams are in the midst of a busy final week before Christmas.

The Mohawks were in Raymond Tuesday night where, according to the Southern Alberta High School Basketball League website, both their junior and varsity teams lost to the Comets.

In varsity play Raymond won 89-76, with five players scoring at least 14 points. Chase Bohne led with 21, although Mohawks forward Bak Nyang led all scorers with 30. Hat High’s second-leading scorer was Darin Parker with 21.

The junior game saw the Comets defence clamp down in a 69-45 win. Joshua Suelzle and Justin Maser each had eight points as no Mohawk got to double digits. Eastin Oler had 24 for Raymond.

Next up for Hat High is a trip to Chinook tonight.


In Southeast Basketball Conference play this past week, McCoy’s boys continued their strong early-season play.

The Colts’ varsity team beat Crescent Heights 86-68 last Wednesday, following an 82-65 win in the junior matchup.

McCoy’s JV boys then stomped Vauxhall 107-22 last Thursday. No score from Tuesday’s varsity game at WR Myers was listed on the league website as of press time.

McCoy’s girls also swept the Vikings last week, 66-29 in the varsity game and 71-45 in junior varsity. They were at Eagle Butte Wednesday.

The varsity girls Talons got by St. Joseph’s 51-45 last Wednesday, while the JV girls beat Duchess 65-42 last Thursday.

Crescent Heights’ girls had swept Brooks, 57-40 in varsity and 54-28 in junior varsity last Wednesday. They host Eagle Butte tonight.
