Two Medicine Hat under-14 ringette teams had strong weekends, one in tournament play while the other continues to clean house in their league.

At Calgary, the Vortex got all the way to the final of the Northwest Ringette Rumble. The under-14 B team went 2-2, with both of their losses coming to the eventual champs.

Vortex opened with a 7-3 loss to St. Albert Shock, but rebounded with a 7-5 win over Calgary Ambush. A 13-1 victory over Calgary’s Bow View Demons earned them a rematch with St. Albert in Sunday’s final, but they lost again, this time a narrow 8-5 decision.

Bree Becker had three goals for Medicine Hat in the final, with Megan Taylor and Jessica Heidel adding singles.

Also in Calgary, the under-14 B Blaze didn’t enter the same tournament but did play twice Saturday in league play.

Both were narrow victories. They edged Calgary South Thunder 3-2 on goals from Delaney Mastel, Julia Tweed and Alycia Simpson. A 2-1 win over Bow View Strive saw Tweed and Jae Shott get the goals. Tweed and Mastel are part of the defensive group backstopped by goaltender Hailey Orr, which has only allowed 10 goals during in six league games so far.

Needless to say, they’ve won all six.
