An invite to play in the Canada Russia Series will extend Mason Shaw’s road trip next week.
The Medicine Hat Tigers forward will stay in B.C. following Saturday’s game in Kelowna, announced Friday as an injury replacement for the WHL team that will play in Prince George Monday and then Edmonton Tuesday.
Shaw, who leads the league in scoring with 27 points in 15 games, was among three players added to the roster which will face a team of Russian selects to begin an annual six-game series against WHL, Ontario Hockey League and Quebec Major Junior Hockey League all-star teams. Prince George’s Brad Morrison and Swift Current’s Lane Pederson are the others.
Kelowna’s Dillon Dube, Moose Jaw’s Brett Howden and Brandon’s Nolan Patrick all had to cancel due to injuries.
Shaw has played internationally before, on Canada’s roster at the Ivan Hlinka Memorial Tournament this summer.
The new assignment won’t cause the Wainwright product to miss any games with Medicine Hat, which returns home for a Nov. 12 game against Saskatoon following their road trip.
