Mental fitness will be at the forefront this evening at Medicine Hat College when Frank van den Berg takes the podium to discuss the importance of the brain for developing athletes.
The director of mental performance with the Canadian Sport Institute of Calgary, van den Berg uses his background in sport psychology to “optimize preparedness and performance in athletes, teams and their coaches,” which includes “mental training and coaching, psychometric assessment, biofeedback training, eye movement desensitization and reprocessing, team building, coach support and education and psychological first aid” in sport, according to a press release.
The free Winning Edge seminar, which kicks off at 6 p.m. in Room F156, will touch on how developing and growing mental fitness can contribute to overall performance in sport and how to implement mental skills and strategies into training and competition.
