Volleyball season in full swing

Week 3 of the local high school volleyball season wrapped up Wednesday with parity the key word in one division while a pair of teams have jumped out ahead in the other.

In varsity boys play Hat High — an opening-week loser at McCoy, beat Senator Gershaw 3-1 (25-18, 25-9, 23-25, 25-21) Tuesday nigh to improve to 1-1. The Gators, who beat McCoy last week, fell to 2-1.

Meanwhile, the Hat High varsity girls needed four sets to beat Gershaw 3-1 (25-13, 23-25, 25-21, 25-23) to avenge their Sept. 19 loss to the Colts.

McCoy and Eagle Butte’s girls appear to be the only undefeated teams in the league, following the Colts’ 3-0 sweep of Brooks Tuesday. The Talons swept Foremost 3-0.

The only other games of the week to be reported were in junior girls, where McCoy got by Brooks in five sets while the Talons won 3-1 over Foremost.
