So far, so good for Eagle Butte’s varsity boys volleyball team.
The Talons won a tournament in Lethbridge this past weekend, a familiar start to their campaign after winning the exact same event a year ago.
After getting through three round robin matches and two playoff games at the Lethbridge College tourney, Eagle Butte got its stiffest test from Catholic Central in Saturday night’s championship match. The home team won the first set 25-17 before the Talons took the second 25-15, then a narrow 16-14 decision in the third.
The Dunmore-based squad also beat St. Mary’s, Immanuel Christian, Nobleford, Vauxhall and Winston Churchill. They were to begin local league play Tuesday night, hosting Brooks.
As for the lady Talons, they also had a good weekend in Lethbridge, making it to the final against Taber’s WR Myers. But the Rebels were victorious, 25-23 and 25-23.
Eagle Butte got by Kate Andrews and Cardston en route to the final. They drew a bye to open the league regular season, at Brooks next Tuesday.
In league results received Tuesday by press time, Senator Gershaw’s Gators each swept Crescent Heights’ Vikings 3-0. The boys won 25-17, 25-15 and 25-16, while the girls rolled to a 25-23, 25-20, 25-16 victory.
