1917 ~ FAY FEDORUK ~ 2021
Fay Fedoruk of Medicine Hat passed away on Friday, August 6, 2021 at the age of 103 years, beloved wife of the late Alex Fedoruk. She leaves to cherish her memory three children, Bill Fedoruk, Boris ‘Bob’ (Shirley) Fedoruk and John (Carol) Fedoruk; three grandchildren, Robert (Karen) Fedoruk, David (Catherine) Fedoruk and Sarah (Jeremy) Hawes; six great grandchildren, Alex, Bridgett, Benjamin, Kaleb, William and Bryleigh as well as numerous nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by her parents, Wasyl and Fannie Barowski; her husband, Alex in 1964; one brother Max in infancy; four sisters, Vera in infancy, Polly (Jim) Fedorick, Ruth (Bill) Relkoff and Mary (George) Popoff.
Fay was the last daughter born on her parents’ homestead farm near Buchanan, Saskatchewan. As a pioneer family, Fay grew up working hard alongside her sisters and parents. Her chores were typical of a family farm and included a daily two mile walk to and from their second farm property to fetch their milking cows. This demanding life style instilled in Fay the hard work ethic she maintained throughout her entire life, and which she also instilled into her children.
Fay left the farm as a young adult and moved to Winnipeg. She remembered the day World War II ended and recalled everyone dancing in the streets. She also remembered the 1950 Winnipeg flood that prompted her to return to her parents’ farm until the flood subsided. A few years later in Winnipeg, she met and married Alex. They established their lives together and had three boys: Bill, Boris and John. Fay loved her family, dedicating herself to them and always putting their needs ahead of hers. Sadly, Alex passed away suddenly in 1964 leaving Fay with three young boys. She worked tirelessly, sacrificing her comforts to provide for their needs. The boys eventually left Winnipeg to pursue their education and employment leaving Fay on her own for a while. Fay eventually moved to Medicine Hat in 1998 where John had settled with his family. She enjoyed spending time with her family and watching her grandchildren, and later her great grandchildren, grow up.
The Christian faith that Fay initially learned as a young girl from her parents continued and grew throughout her life. It sustained her as a widow while raising her family and then into “the empty nest.” Her faith in Jesus Christ was both her strength and hope throughout her entire life and into her final days.
For over a century Fay’s life and legacy has been an enduring faith in God, and a love for her family. To her family, and the many friends who knew her, she was a kind, gentle and faithful person. May she rest in peace and rise in glory. Those who wish to pay their respects may do so at the PATTISON FUNERAL HOME on Friday from 11:30 a.m. to 12:25 p.m. The funeral service will be held in the PATTISON CHAPEL on Friday, August 13, 2021 at 12:30 p.m. with The Rev. 1930 ~ HEDWIG ROFLIK ~ 2021
Hedwig (Hedy) Roflik, formally of Regina, Saskatchewan, passed away peacefully on August 3rd 2021, at the Good Samaritan Southridge Village in Medicine Hat. She was predeceased by her parents John and Erna Will; her husband, Vince in 2002; her grandson, Brian Roflik; step-grandson, Ludek Roflik in 2016; brothers, Emil and Ewald Will; and sister, Frieda Will. Hedy will be lovingly remembered by her sons, John (Linda) of Medicine Hat Alberta and Rob (Christine) of Regina Saskatchewan; stepson, Vlastimil (Sdenka) of the Czech Republic; grandchildren, Heather (Josh), Marcus and Carter; step-grandson, Vlasta; great-grandchild, Felix; step-great grandchildren, Jacob, Vaclav, Vlastik, and Eliska; her sister, Ida Bitzer, and brother John, Will; as well as numerous nieces, nephews, and extended family. Hedy was born in a German enclave in Poland on April 11, 1930. Her family lost everything during the Second World War. As the eldest sibling, Hedy helped her mom with the family when they fled Poland to Germany in 1945. Hedy immigrated to Canada with her mom and siblings in 1948, followed by her dad in 1949. She married Vince on June 29, 1957. She worked at the Regina General Hospital prior to raising her family. After her sons were grown she returned to work at the Regina Hospital Laundry. She was selfless and enjoyed giving back to her friends, family and community. She was a long-time member of the Trinity Evangelical Lutheran Church in Regina. Her family would like to extend a heartfelt thank you for the excellent care she received from her care team while residing at the Good Samaritan Village. A private family graveside service will take place at Riverside Memorial Park Cemetery in Regina. The family of Debra Mae Straub are saddened to announce her passing at the Medicine Hat Regional Hospital on August 6th, 2021 at the age of 66 years. Debra leaves to cherish her memory her husband, Gordon; daughter, Amber (Michael); sons, Corey (Jackie) and Jerry (Angela); her grandchildren and great-grandchildren; parents, Eddie and Shirley Anhorn; and sisters, Karmynn (Grant) and Sandra (Bruce). Debra was born in Maple Creek, SK and grew up in Hatton, SK. She loved animals and worked in a veterinary clinic for many years in Medicine Hat. Debra was a private person and was content to spend time with Gordon on their acreage tending to their animals and canning. The family would like to thank the ICU doctors and nurses for the care they had given Debra. There will be a private funeral for the immediate family. MICHAEL ANTHONY PIGOTT
November 2nd, 1937 to August 7th, 2021
Uncle Mike was born November 2nd, 1937 in Southend-On-Sea (England) during WWII. Mike was one of two children born to Maurice Anthony Pigott and Dora Frances Mason. His family immigrated to the U.S.A. in 1952 where he attended and graduated from Kokomo High School in Indiana. In 1960, the family moved once more, this time to Medicine Hat, AB to be closer to other aunts and uncles that had also relocated after the war.
Mike worked in a variety of professions including Marshall’s Book Store (2nd Street), Red Owl Grocer’s, Wilson Lighting (Airport), North West Nitro (Western Coop Fertilizers), McLeod’s (3rd Street), Kulpe Lumber and Ben’s Office Machines. Warehousing and procurement were his prominent job designations, and he officially retired in 1998.
Mike had a keen interest in the arts, particularly classical music, and concert theater. Although he never played, he was an active volunteer of the Medicine Hat branch of Overture Concert Association. From 1969 to 1987, he filled various roles including club president and was instrumental in helping to secure four concerts annually in Medicine Hat, with the concert Overture being based out of Vancouver.
Mike also frequented the Medicine Hat Public Library and Veiner Center, visiting with friends, old and new. He worked on the City of Medicine Hat transit advisory committee and was a huge supporter of the local SPCA. Mike shared a distinct connection with nature where he could often be found strolling through local parks and partaking in local events held at the Police Point Park Interpretive Centre. Although Mike did not marry, he reserved a special place in his life in adopting his beloved cats including Sam, Silas, Eppy and Kate.
Mike was well known for sharing corny jokes. When he was a young man, he had a large inventory of whoopy cushions, cans of ‘snakes’, hand buzzers and chattering teeth. Mike was a hard-working man, had much pride in maintaining his independence. Mike had a wealth of knowledge and was a man of self-study and intellectual curiosity whereby his eclectic classical LP and book collections could attest.
Mike’s final home was in Riverview Long Term Care center and would like to thank all the staff during his brief stay. Mike’s only sister Vivien (Russell) passed away in 2019 and he is survived by his niece Roxanne, his nephew Tony Russell, and their families. A small private family service will be held at the Hillside Cemetery in Medicine Hat, Alberta.
