1929 ~ ANNE WHITE ~ 2020 Anna “Anne” Marie White passed away on Thursday, December 17, 2020 at the age of 91 years, beloved wife of Jim White of Medicine Hat. She also leaves to cherish her memory three children, Barclay (Renee) White, Jamie (Janet) White and Ron (Lori) White; eight grandchildren, Matthew (Kimberly) White, Allison (Glen) Trefenanko, Clarke White (Trisha Mattson), Adrienne (Monica) Madhavpeddi, John White, Jenny (Ali) Bozorgzad, Jill (Doan) Galarneau and Jolene (Justin) Friesen; fifteen great grandchildren, Joel, Josh and Olivia White, Brooke and Leah Trefananko, Daine Mattson and Liam White, Stella, Spencer and Shephard Bozorgzad, Ford and Anna Galarneau, Anders, Arabella and Benson Friesen; six brothers and sisters and their families. She was predeceased by one grandson Colton White; her parents Vicki and Michael Malesh and three siblings. Mom was born at the family farm in Stonehenge, Saskatchewan on March 28th, 1929, 4th oldest of 10 kids. Mom and Dad were married on April 2nd, 1953, and over the years, resided in Assiniboia, Crane Valley, Moose Jaw, and for the last 41 years, Medicine Hat. Mike Malesh, Mom's Dad passed away when she was 12 years old, and our Grandma was left to raise 10 young kids on her own on a very small farm. They didn't have much, if anything, but really, no one did, during and after the depression. They persevered. They had each other, and there were enough kids to make up their own ball team, which was a favourite summertime pastime. Mom moved to Assiniboia, a 20 mile journey, to finish her last two years of high school and complete a secretarial course. This is where our parents met and later, married. They were both very active and athletic, attending the small town summer sports day, dances, and the winter sport of local curling bonspiels. They were married in 1953, and had 67 wonderful years together. Dad then began his career with Imperial Oil in Crane Valley, Saskatchewan as an Esso Sales Agent. After a couple years there, they moved back to Assiniboia, then Moose Jaw, and now Medicine Hat since 1979. All these moves were excellent opportunities for their Esso business. Mom supported Dad at every move, even though they were leaving a huge community of friends every time they moved. They were completely involved in every community they lived in, both as service club members (Kinsmen and Rotary), the United Church, local youth sports, curling clubs, and whatever else they could do as volunteers to help a charity they truly believed in. And, of course, being very involved in her three sons various sports activities. She was more than just a taxi driver, she was our biggest cheerleader. Then, came the nine grandkids and all their adventures, and later on, the 15 great-grandkids. She knew every birthday, anniversary, graduation, recital, tournament, etc. that was going on with everyone. Her kids, grandkids and great-grandkids have become very spread out over the years, all living in different locations, but she knew what was going on everywhere. Her calendar in the kitchen was full of events, the fridge is littered with pictures of everyone. There's not much room left. Dad retired in the early '90's, they then became really busy. They made their annual winter trip to Palm Springs with their great friends, Doris and Don Jensen from Victoria, went on many cruises to Alaska, Panama Canal, the Caribbean and Europe. They were also very involved in the Uniroyal World Jr. Curling events and were instrumental in attracting that event to Medicine Hat. Many trips to these other events around the world, before and after the World Jr here, became a wonderful experience for them. They were avid supporters of Tigers hockey and Blue Jays baseball, when it was here. Later on, Dad would go to the Tiger games with friends, and Mom would stay home and listen to Bob on the radio. They would jump in the car and go visit one of their kids or grandkids somewhere, as they tried not to miss any of their special events. Mom carried herself with elegance, grace and dignity. She was a proud, strong, smart woman. And, a wonderful Mom and Grandma. Although, she never had any daughters, her five granddaughters are doing their best to " fill her shoes". That's not easy, but it sure is fun trying, especially the clothes part. Her and Dad's life were lived in complete health and independence. She was hardly sick a day in her life until the last two weeks. We would like to express our sincere thanks and appreciation for the excellent care she received the last week of her life. Dr Parks, Dr. Lazarevic, Dr Mi, and, of course, the team of fantastic nurses and caregivers on 5E. You people are incredible. When the vaccine gets to Medicine Hat, we hope that you are first in line. You deserve it. Those who wish to pay their respects may do so at the PATTISON FUNERAL HOME on Tuesday evening from 6:00 – 8:00 p.m. (masks are mandatory). Due to Covid -19 restrictions, a funeral service by invitation only will take place in the PATTISON CHAPEL on Wednesday, December 23, 2020 at 1:30 p.m. with Rev. David Pollard officiating. A public celebration of Anne’s life will be held in the future, when it is safe to do so. HARRISON, Breanna Lee August 16, 1993 – October 29, 2020 On Thursday October 29th, Breanna Lee Harrison, beloved Daughter, Sister, Granddaughter, Niece, Aunt, Cousin and Friend passed away at the age of 27.
Breanna (Bree) was born on August 16, 1993 to Bonita Harrison in Calgary, AB. Bree attended elementary and middle school in Innisfail, Bowden and graduated from High School in Sundre in 2011. She went on to obtain a Business Management Certificate as well as her Health Care Aide Certificate and furthermore became a certified First Aid Instructor in 2019.
Bree’s nature was to give. She had a heart full of love for animals, the special needs community, the elderly and anyone who was in need.
Bree was preceded in death by her Granddad Gorden, Great Grand-dad Wilf and Great Grandma Pearl Harrison. She is survived by her Mother Bonita (Harrison) Ebelher and Father Mike Ebelher, Grandparents Lea and Ken Harde, Grandma June Ebelher, Siblings John (Kenzie), Jillian (Jim), Shaun (Kayla) and Stu (Raina), and numerous nieces and nephews.
A private celebration of life was hosted by the family.
KEN PETERSON December 20, 1931 ~ December 19, 2020 Ken Peterson, loving husband of 66 years to Alvina “Babe” Peterson, passed away from a sudden heart attack at his home, one day before his 89th birthday. An avid golfer, retired CPR locomotive engineer and member of the Medicine Hat Golf Club since 1954, Ken was part of the “Rat Pack” of retirees, playing 80-100 rounds each season. He was born in rural Saskatchewan, relocating with his family to Medicine Hat during WWII. He married Alvina Klukus in 1954, raised two sons, Kyle and Steven, and retired from the CPR in 1989. He enjoyed a long retirement, wintering among many friends in Arizona and golfing at home in the summer. Ken is survived by his wife, Alvina; son, Kyle (Terry) of Calgary; grandsons, Matt (Barb) Peterson of Medicine Hat and Keenan Peterson of Calgary; granddaughters, Regan (Aaron) Brooks of Lethbridge and Amanda (Mike) Nymark of Lacombe; great- grandchildren, Colton, Avery, Abby, Chloe, Colin, Aurora and Arianna as well as numerous nieces and nephews. Ken was predeceased by his son, Steven, in 1997; parents, Andrew and Rose Peterson; parents-in-law, Maggie and Otto Klukus; brothers, Arnold and Ron and sisters, Norma Lane and Isabel Schaurer. At Ken’s request, a private graveside service will be held where his ashes will be interred in his son’s grave. Thomas James Mcgregor
May 4, 1946 – December 18, 2020 Tom was preceded by his wife Shirley, leaving to cherish memory his children, Thomas of Red Deer, Bonnie of Calgary and his grandchildren, James, Morgan, Abigail. Tom will also be missed by his sister Louise, his brother Bruce.
Tom was a simple common salt of the earth guy, he didn't like big cities, he liked his hamlets (Dogpound, AB). Tom never owned anything new, he was always for a deal. Tom retired from the city of Calgary as a dispatcher for the C train, spent time as a weatherman on the dew line for the Canadian Government; he was also a Calgary Police Officer and spent time with AGT. Tom graduated from Medicine Hat Hat School, and served time with the South Alberta light horse in Medicine Hat.
Tom got his final wish to be reunited with his wife Shirley. Tom's ashes will be kept by his daughter Bonnie to cherish his memory.
ZOE BEST September 4, 1924 ~ December 17, 2020 Zoe Yvonne Best passed away peacefully at St. Joseph’s Home – Carmel Hospice in Medicine Hat on Thursday, December 17, 2020, at the age of 96 years. She is survived by her two children, Lyndon A. (Val) Best and Debra Best; seven grandchildren; nine great-grandchildren; brother, Robert Edwards as well as numerous nieces and nephews, their families and a host of “shirt tail relatives”; special friends, Melanie Metcalf, Dan and Pat Hein and Sharon and Wally Regehr made Zoe’s active life in Medicine Hat complete. Zoe was born in Winnipeg, MB., on September 4, 1924. She began professionally modelling in 1940 and her final shoot was in 2007. Her Brigdens yellow ticket anchored a lifetime love of fashion. Zoe also graduated the same year from Garbutt’s Business College and competently administrated the office of Gordon Hume in Moose Jaw for years. She curled and golfed regularly for six decades and had a 30 year daily regime of swimming and biking which kept her fit and able. Zoe’s love for people and learning was fulfilled in her 78 year sisterhood with Beta Sigma Phi. She volunteered in many capacities every year from the age of 14, culminating in receiving the Provincial Volunteer of the Year award from the Canadian Mental Health Association at the age of 93. Her life’s love, her husband, Lyndy, was her partner in every way. For 75 years, they shared the joys of family, friends new and old, travel and most of all, dancing. From the Lindy Hop in their teens to square dancing in their 90’s… they never missed a beat. Thank you to Laurel Schlaht from the Medicine Hat Historical Society for chronicling Zoe’s aka “the flower lady’s” life. She was in one word, amazing! Zoe’s life will be silently remembered by family and friends without the proceedings of a formal funeral service.
