Robert Stephen Kilroe, Rock to most, was born August 30, 1926, in Vancouver, BC. When he was very young the family moved to Calgary, AB, where he grew up, married and raised his family. In 1942, Rock joined the Navy and served on various ships during WWII. An ankle he broke on board a ship, meant he was unable to play with the Cleveland Barons, a farm team, for the Chicago Black Hawks, the end of his NHL career. Rock went on to play Sr. Men’s hockey for the High River Flyers. In 1950, they won the right to represent Canada in the Winter Olympics, although a team from Edmonton was sent. Rock was an avid athlete playing football, and rugby; he won Provincial medals in handball and played semi-pro baseball. As he got older he became an avid curler. Rock joined the Calgary Fire Dept. in April of 1952, retiring in August of 1986, at the rank of District Chief. He was very proud that both his sons became Calgary Firefighters and when a grandson became part of the Medicine Hat Fire Dept. Windermere Lake was the summer home for many years, later becoming the full time home, with winters being spent in Arizona. While in Arizona, Rock took up silversmithing, lapidary work and found his passion in lathe work.

Rock is survived by his daughter and son-in-law, Sandie and Doug Dalton; and their children, Kristine (Tom Cermak Lachlan), Johanna (Jon Octeau), and Bryan; two sons and daughter-in-law, Bob and Debbie Kilroe; and their children, Brittany (Graham Gilbert), Cassidy and Robbie; and Tom Kilroe. A Celebration of Rock and Ida’s lives will be held at a later date when the world returns to normal. STEIERT, FLORENCE

Florence Rosie Steiert passed away peacefully on Thursday, November 12, 2020 at the Agape Hospice in Calgary, Alberta at the age of 93 years. Florence was born in Kayville, Saskatchewan to John and Annie Rosko on June 4, 1927. The family moved to Taber, Alberta when Florence was 10 years old where she completed school.

Florence worked for Alberta Government Telephones (AGT) in Brooks and Okotoks where she met her husband, Aloysius. They were married in 1952, moved to Burmis, Alberta for one year and then to Empress where they settled to raise their family. Flo worked for the Empress Municipal Hospital for two and a half years as an admissions clerk and then for AGT as a telephone agent for a number of years where she left in 1964 to raise her family.

Flo enjoyed gardening, especially her flower garden as well as being an excellent baker. Many people loved the sweet treats created in Flo’s kitchen. Flo is most proud of her 25 years of service in the Catholic Women’s League where she served the Catholic Church in various ministries. Over the years after Sunday masses, the Steiert dinner table was a common stop for the parish priests where Flo had gone all out with her delicious brunches. During the most recent years, Flo has been a member of the St. Peter’s Catholic parish in Calgary, AB and had been an active participant in their weekly communion services at her retirement facility in Arbour Lake. Florence remained very independent enjoying life at the Atria Retirement Center where she enjoyed numerous activities including many card games, tile rummy, and bingo with her fellow residents and visiting at meals with her closest friends.

She is survived by her son, Damian Steiert (Yvette) of Calgary, Alberta and her daughter, Leesa Belus (David) of Buffalo, WY, USA. Florence also leaves to treasure her memory five grandchildren Liam, Emme, Deri, Megan Welles (Ian), and Adam and one great granddaughter Demi Welles as well as countless nieces and nephews. Florence was pre-deceased in 2011 by her beloved husband, Aloysius John Steiert, her three brothers, Steve, Sam, Kostan, sister Mary and Grandson, Mathew Belus.

Our hearts are breaking at this difficult time of isolation with the sudden loss of our Mother and know she is smiling down at us from heaven and is at peace and not lonely or in pain any longer.

Funeral services and interment will be planned at a later date in 2021.

Donations can be made in her name to the C.W.L. in Holy Name Parish in Medicine Hat, Alberta.

Expressions of sympathy may be forwarded to the family, via the website: http://www.fostersgardenchapel.ca
