1914 ~ ROSALIA BARESCO ~ 2019
Rosalia Elizabeth (Honig) Baresco of Medicine Hat passed away peacefully at 105 years of age on Friday, September 27th, 2019. She leaves to cherish her memory her daughter, Jean Van Wert; sons, Gerry (Georgina) and Dennis; granddaughter, Janine Baresco; and great-grandchildren, Hart and Gage Baresco. She was predeceased by her husband Michael in 2011; grandson, Kevin Baresco; granddaughter, Christine Baresco; son-in-law, Kevin Van Wert; parents, John and Barbara Honig; six sisters; and three brothers. Rosalia was born on the family farm near McTaggart, SK on July 11th, 1914. Life on the farm provided her with a lifelong love of nature, art, and reading. She grew up in nearby Weyburn, SK, guided by her parents, John and Barbara Honig. She married Mike on October 25th, 1939, eventually moving to Medicine Hat in 1946 with their young family. Her Riverside home had a large backyard garden and local farms provided natural, fresh chicken, eggs, and dairy. Berries from the surrounding area were canned or frozen, along with just about everything the garden produced. Mom grounded us with a good home and strong ethics and spirituality. Her love of travel had our family driving the roads of Alberta and Saskatchewan learning the histories of the area. Mom and Dad travelled as well to Eastern Canada, spending time in Quebec and the Maritimes, soaking up more information about her cherished country, Canada. Then finally, a trip to Europe to visit Mom’s Hungarian aunt who resided in Belgrade. Then on to Holland, Italy, and France further stoking Mom’s love of distant lands and history. Upon Dad’s retirement in 1981, they moved to Penticton, BC. Here they took up square dancing, made many new friends, traveled to the coastal islands and throughout BC. They even took an Alaskan cruise to see the whales…didn’t…but did continue to enjoy a very healthy life. In their mid-nineties, they made the decision to return to Medicine and to their children. They resided in St. Joseph’s Home, which was at that time, still operated by their friends, the Carmelite sisters. Mom continued to amaze us as she entered her “100’s”. She continued to paint every day, do crossword puzzles, and attend garden tours. She indeed loved to discuss the news of the day with her strong, educated opinions and she was also an encyclopedia of family history for generations that followed. A special THANKS to the staff at St. Joseph’s Home who provided Mom with many opportunities to hand out and receive quips, barbs, jokes, and “serious” discussions on a regular basis. We are so thankful we had all these amazing years together. We will miss all those competitive card games, Scrabble, Yahtzee, and the many spring, summer, fall, and winter drives through the countryside. TIME to rest in love, Mom, and see all those clouds that you loved to paint from a new height. The Funeral Mass will be celebrated at ST. PATRICK'S ROMAN CATHOLIC CHURCH, 238 – 2nd Avenue NE, on Saturday, October 26th, 2019, at 10:30 a.m. with Father Francis Tran, Celebrant. Interment will follow in the Roman Catholic Section at Hillside Cemetery. It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of Roger Legault of Medicine Hat, Alberta. Roger passed away peacefully on October 4th, 2019 with his family by his side. Roger was a loving husband, father, grandfather, great-grandfather, and friend. He loved life to the fullest and his contagious smile and laughter will forever stay with us all. He is survived by his loving wife, Noella Legault; sons, Mike Legault (Angie), Rene Legault (Sandra), Gilles Legault; his daughters, Gisele Delorme, Nicole Gaja (Al), and Jacqueline Goshawk (Clark). He also will be greatly missed by his ten grandchildren and seven great- grandchildren; his brother; sisters-in-law: and numerous nieces and nephews. Roger also leaves behind an extended family at Masterpiece. He was predeceased by his father, Arthur Legault; stepfather, Maurice Carles; mother, Rose-Alma Carles; brothers, Jules Legault and Lionel Legault; and sisters, Terry Westlake and Julie O’Reilly. 1934 ~ LEONARD TISNIC ~ 2019
Mr. Leonard “Len” Tisnic of Medicine Hat, beloved husband of Esther Tisnic passed away on Monday, October 7th, 2019 at the age of 85 years. Leonard leaves to cherish his memory his children, Alvin (Sherry) Tisnic, Wanda (Brian) Dineen, Keith (Roberta) Tisnic; six grandchildren; 8 great-grandchildren; and two great-great-grandchildren. He was predeceased by his parents, Anton and Minnie; three brothers, and four sisters. Len was born June 22nd, 1934 in Kenaston, SK and attended school in nearby Chatham. As a young man, he farmed his parent’s home place. In 1957, he moved to Red Deer, AB, then South to Medicine Hat, AB. It was here that he met and married the love of his life, Esther. Len worked for the City of Medicine Hat for a few years before becoming foreman of the water department. Although earlier than planned, Leonard retired in 1997 as a result of his declining health. Throughout his life, Len was a very active member of the Moose Lodge where he held the position of Governor for two years and received the Pilgrim Degree, the highest award the Moose Lodge has to offer. Len volunteered many hours at the Veiner Centre and with Meals on Wheels. He was also active in the Wise Owls program. Len was the proud recipient of the Golden Hero Award. When Len wasn’t busy helping others he loved golfing, fishing, cooking. travelling, and playing games. He enjoyed spending as much time as he could with his grandchildren and great-grandchildren. It is with great sadness and sorrow that we, the family of Jody Ann Wenaas (nee Waddell), announce her passing after a courageous battle with cancer. Jody was born on April 7, 1965, in Lethbridge, AB., and passed away in Medicine Hat on Thursday, October 10, 2019, at the age of 54 years. With Heavy hearts, we announce the passing of Lawrence “Jack” Johnstone of Kimberley, B.C. on September 20th, 2019 at the East Kootenay Regional Hospital at the age of 68.
Jack is survived by his children Jessie (Shaun) and Joshua (Jayna), his grandchildren Trinity, Justice, Shianne, Emma-Leigh, Annalee-Dawn, and Sylvie-Rowan, two brothers William, Gordon and his sister Hazel as well as many nieces and nephews.
Jack was predeceased by his wife Lee-Ann Johnstone (Matthews), his parents Bertha and Albert Johnstone.

It is with profound sadness we announce the passing of Debbie Ann Procter after a long and courageous battle with C.O.P.D. At the time of her passing Debbie was in the hospital awaiting a lung transplant. Debbie’s journey through life started on March 5, 1960 in Roseau, Minnesota, USA and came to a close at the Peter Lougheed Hospital in Calgary on October 3, 2019. Debbie was predeceased by a daughter, Chantel Lynn Procter in infancy, as well as her mother Corinne Palamer and her father Ed Thompson. She leaves to cherish her memory her daughter Kaylee Monique Procter, brothers; Gordon (Patty) Thompson, Donny (Christine) Thompson, one sister Marilyn Kinsella, as well as numerous nieces and nephews all of whom she cherished. Throughout her journey Debbie enjoyed many occupations, working in several restaurant and night clubs as well as many years for the Bank of Montreal in Calgary where she received countless awards for “Employee of The Month.” Her final place of employment was Walmart in Medicine Hat where she was treated with respect and compassion. They would adjust her work schedule to accommodate her ability to work and give her any time off she needed when her illness would not afford her the strength to work. The family would like to recognize and thank Walmart for their compassion and understanding. She made many new friends at every stop. Her happiest moment and biggest accomplishment came when she saw her daughter Kaylee, whom she loved only as a mother could, graduate from the University of Toronto with a Masters Degree and a perfect 4.0 G.P.A. It was at this moment that Debbie found peace and was truly prepared for what lie ahead. Debbie also leaves behind her two constant companions and best friends, Pixie and Bella, the puppies she loved and treated as children. As per Debbie’s wishes there will be no formal funeral service and cremation has taken place. A celebration of Debbie’s life will be held at Whiskey Creek, Creekside Reception room on Saturday October 12, 2019 at 1:00 p.m. To honour Debbie please dress casual.
