GUS WUDRICH

It is with sad hearts, we announce the passing of Gustav “Gus” Egan Wudrich on October 7, 2018. Gus was born in 1927 on the family farm near Aberdeen, Saskatchewan. In 1935, at the age of eight years, the family moved to Southern Alberta, eventually settling in the Conquerville area. In 1951, Gus bought a farm west of Whitla and shortly thereafter met his life partner, Fern McFaul. They were married in 1953 and had five children: Debby, Mary Lou, Judy, Gordon and Wanda. Whitla was a great community in which to raise family. Gus and Fern farmed until 1990 and then moved to Seven Persons. Eventually, they moved to Medicine Hat and then to the Bow Island Pleasant View Lodge. Gus was predeceased by his parents Carl and Mary Wudrich; sisters, Alevena Kettles (Jack), Elsie Butler (Arnold), and his brothers, Andrew (Grace, Betty), Walter (Millie) and Rudy (Mary). Gus is survived by his wife Fern of 65 years, children Debby Stark, Mary Lou (Gerry) Hansen, Judy (Kelly) Van Ham, Gordon (Sue) Wudrich, and Wanda (Brent) Moncks; thirteen grandchildren and fifteen great grandchildren. He is also survived by his sisters, Dorothy Geddes and Lilly Dockrell, sisters-in-law, Betty Wudrich and Evelyn Meston, two brothers-in-law, Malcom Cook and Jim Sanderson along with numerous nieces and nephews. Farming was everything to Gus – he could hear weeds growing in his sleep! But, he also enjoyed the winters he and Fern spent in Palm Desert. In addition to his talent as a meticulous farmer, Gus enjoyed watching ball games, music, playing crib and above all, time spent with his family. The family would like to extend their sincere appreciation to the staff at the Bow Island Health Center. A special thank you to Tom and Marlene Noga for being such supportive dining room companions. Those who wish to pay their respects may do so on Saturday at the Bow Island Legion from 12:00 – 1:00 p.m. A Celebration of Life will be held at the Bow Island Legion (202 5th Ave E, Bow Island) on Saturday, October 13, 2018 at 1:00 p.m. A private family burial will be held.
