Valentine Deis, beloved husband of Victoria Deis of Medicine Hat, passed away on Tuesday, June 24th, 2014 at the age of 94 years. It is with sadness that the family of James Samuel Lentz, beloved husband to Hannelore Lentz, passed away suddenly on June 25, 2014, at the age of 68 years. James leaves to cherish his memory three children: Renita (Graham) Heisler, Dean (Deb) Lentz, Gina (Rob) Reesor; grandchildren, Georgia & Tylan Heisler, Samantha Lentz and Kiara & Blair Reesor; three sisters and one brother, Esther (Len) Tisnic, Violet Otto, Leonard Lentz and Marlene (Wayne) Morten; two brothers-in-law, Conrad (Lynn) Sonntag and Rick Sonntag. 1923 ~ 2014
Joyce Lilian Bernice Ody passed away at the Medicine Hat Regional Hospital on Sunday, June 22, 2014, just one week before her 91st birthday. She was born July 1, 1923 in Swindon, Wiltshire, United Kingdom, a daughter to Alfred Chambers and Annie Wiltshire. Joyce married William Ody during WWII and they were blessed with three children. In 1967 they immigrated to Canada first settling in Lacombe, Alberta and later moving to Medicine Hat in 1969. We will all remember Joyce for knitting, especially Christmas socks and her needlework. Her walls were covered with colourful, textured works of art, made through many countless hours of needle and thread work. Joyce was very proud of the fact that she was able to remain in her home as long as she could despite her failing health, thanks to the love and support of her many friends, neighbours, Home Care Services staff and Dr. Bratvold. Joyce will be lovingly remembered by her daughter, Elisabeth Thornback of Reading, UK, her son, John (Evelyn) Ody of Calgary; nine grandchildren, 23 great-grandchildren; one sister, Betty White of Sydney, Australia as well as numerous nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by her husband, William in 1986 and a son, Michael in 1991. Annie Weisgerber (Knoll) of Schuler moved peacefully to heaven on Tuesday June 24, 2014, at the age of 89 years, beloved wife of the late Johnny Weisgerber. She leaves to cherish her memory her son Ed (Gladys) Weisgerber (their children, Brock (Juanita) Weisgerber, Lori (Scott) Niwa and Lorral (Marcy) Weisgerber); her son-in-law, Tom Herman and his predeceased wife Antonia, (their children, Brad (Janice) Herman, Kim (Tyler) Rae and Leanne Herman); fourteen great grandchildren as well as her special brother, Walter (Clem) Knoll; three sisters-in-law, Katie Knoll, Sophie Weisgerber and Ramona Weisgerber; one brother-in-law, Val Volk as well as numerous nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by her husband Johnny on July 14, 1997 and her daughter Antonia on January 16, 2011; her parents, Jacob and Annastasia Knoll and six brothers and six sisters. Annie was born in Francis, Saskatchewan on April 20, 1925. She was raised in the Francis/ Odessa area where she attended school. Annie met John when she was on a thrashing crew working in the Francis/ Sedley area and they were married on the Knoll farm on January 5, 1944. They then lived their first years of married life with John’s parents, Nick and Katherine Weisgerber. They operated the dairy there for approximately six years, delivering milk to the village of Schuler. Together, they farmed the Nick Weisgerber farm. Annie was a hard worker with such a loving and caring personality towards everyone whose lives she touched and she will be sadly missed. Her favourite treasures were her family, her faith, her cooking and baking, sewing and gardening her flowers. Annie was a dedicated CWL member and just recently celebrated her 60th year as an active member. Annie’s last few days were full of dignity, respect, love, laughter and some final tears. She was a gentle, loving, graceful soul, a friend to all and a faithful servant of God. Mom, your work on earth is done! Fly with the angels! You will be missed. A special thank you to everyone at Meadowlands Retirement Assisted Living and the wonderful nurses and doctors in the Emergency and Palliative Care Units of the Medicine Hat Regional Hospital. Laurel Francis Wickwire beloved husband of Vivian Wickwire (nee Brown) of Calgary, passed away on Sunday, June 22, 2014 at the age of 88 years.
Laurel was born on April 19, 1926 on the farm at Darmody, SK. Laurel spent his younger years in northern Saskatchewan on his parents’ farm. At the tender age of fourteen, Laurel set out on his own. He worked in mills, tied steel, drove logging trucks, as well as working in the Blue Bell Mine. He went on to purchase his own land and he and Vivian became farmers. Laurel and Vivian were married September 20, 1950. They retired to Medicine Hat in 2004, where they spent seven years before moving to Calgary.
Laurel passed at the same time as his oldest son Laurie.
Laurel is survived by his loving wife Vivian; daughters Barb and Bev (Roger); daughter-in-law Ceci; grandchildren, Cecilia Colunga, Stephanie, Kelly (Rick), Jamie (Hailey), Tammy (Mike), Lisa (Ramon), Myles, Bryce, Dustin (Shevaughn) and Andrea (Andrew); and great-grandchildren, Quinton, Keira, Cohen, Finn, Lincoln, Autumn and Lola; as well numerous brothers and sisters-in-law. He was predeceased by his brother Milford; his parents Clifton and Marjorie; his youngest son Gregory; his sister Lucielle; and daughter-in-law Doris.
