Community lab services in Lethbridge, Brooks and Medicine Hat have transitioned from Alberta Precision Laboratories (APL) to DynaLIFE Medical Labs.
Alberta Health Services, APL and DynaLIFE said in a joint news release that the change, implemented in large urban centres across the province that have alternate community lab locations to serve clients, is part of the provincial transition of laboratory services from Alberta Precision Labs to DynaLIFE Medical Laboratories.
The statement explains that by re-directing community lab services to new DynaLIFE community labs in Lethbridge, capacity at the hospital increases, allowing APL staff to provide more efficient and effective service to in-hospital and acute care patients.
The Bigelow Fowler West and Family Medical Centre clinics previously provided a space for APL lab services. Laboratory staff and resources from these locations have transferred to the new DynaLIFE Patient Service Centres located at 1240 2A Ave. N (Centre Village Mall) and 405 Highlands Blvd. W. (West Highlands, in the same parking lot as Save on Foods).
They explain in the statement that change of location does not reflect a reduction in service in Lethbridge, as DynaLIFE is taking on the existing group of high-performing and talented staff and jobs will not be lost.
There will continue to be three laboratory collection locations in Lethbridge – the two new DynaLIFE community labs, and the hospital laboratory, operated by APL, which will continue to serve patients who have a requisition generated at a hospital or urgent care site, either through inpatient, emergency or ambulatory clinics.
New DynaLIFE lab locations in Lethbridge are significantly larger than the previous lab locations and will improve community lab services by introducing new patient tools and technologies, adding patient capacity, and improving access to lab services in the community.
he transition of services from APL to DynaLIFE does not impact the services available to Albertans, nor will it lead to any additional costs for routine collections.
“By transitioning community lab services to DynaLIFE, we are maintaining lab quality and providing a more efficient, effective and sustainable laboratory system,” reads the statement.
Hospital labs in rural areas of the AHS South Zone that do not have additional community labs will continue to serve rural community clients.
Albertans can book an appointment, and find the closest lab location, online at qme.dynalife.ca or by calling the DynaLIFE appointment booking line at 1-877-702-4486.
