City extending refugee bus pass support program
By CITY OF LETHBRIDGE on January 10, 2023.
The Refugee Bus Pass Support Program has been extended through the first two months of 2023.
On July 5, 2022 Council approved $90,000 from Council Contingencies for Lethbridge Transit, through the Fee Assistance Program, to provide a free six-month bus pass to all new refugees arriving in Lethbridge in 2022.
On September 27, 2022 Council approved an additional $15,000 from Council Contingencies to continue this program.
At the end of 2022 there were funds remaining in the program that were not used. These funds have been approved for the use to continue this program through January and February 2023 or until all previously applied funding is spent.
Lethbridge Transit will issue two-month bus passes for eligible applicants in January and one-month passes to eligible applicants in February until funding runs out.
A Transit Support Pass Program policy will be presented to the Governance Standing Policy Committee meeting on February 23 for ongoing operations of the program.
