Naturalist Brian Keating at the Galt this week

By Ry Clarke - Lethbridge Herald Local Journalism Initiative Reporter on November 12, 2022.

The Friends Society of the Galt Museum and Archives is hosting an evening with Brian Keating on Nov. 16 at 7 p.m.
Renowned adventurer, pilot, naturalist, mountaineer, and children’s author are just a few of the things Keating is known for. His talk will focus on two topics, one about explorer Ernest Shackleton, his experiences in the Antarctic and his two year struggle with survival, followed by a presentation on the Canadian wilderness and the remarkable locations Keating has explored.
“Brian Keating is adventurous. He has done just about everything,” said Glenn Coulter, president of the Friends of the Galt. “He goes on these research missions to learn about the wildlife and the country. He will be giving us two talks on Wednesday evening. The first one called ‘Cold Leadership into the Last Great Wilderness’, and the second one is called ‘Going Wild in Strange Times’.”
Money raised from ticket sales will be put towards fundraising for the Galt Museum. “The Friends of the Galt’s primary focus is educational programs at the Galt. Our raison d’etre is to do anything we can to assist the Galt in running its programs and operations,” said Coulter. “The vast majority of our fundraising goes towards supporting educational programs, most for youth but also for the adults, at the museum.”
Keating is a perfect chance to raise money for the museum, giving audiences a great program filled with adventures and sights.
“He is very enthusiastic and quite humorous. It will be a fast-paced presentation with lots of images, video, and he will also have some of his children’s books too,” said Coulter. “Guests will have an opportunity to chat with him. It is unbelievable in terms of the things that he has done and the things he has his fingers on. He is an exciting guy and it will be a great night.”
