The Lethbridge Arm Wrestling Club is ready to flex some muscle.
The local organization will be staging its second Armwrestling Classic tournament at Bully’s Saturday.
The competition will start around 11:30 a.m. and run until all the classes are finished, said organizer Len Houghton, a two-time world champion who has also won 16 Canadian super heavyweight titles.
Classes include youth, amateur, professional and women’s classes. There are also competitions for both right-handers and lefties.
“I think there’s a lot of interest in the city,” said Houghton Wednesday.
The local club has existed about 40 years and has evolved in the last couple, he said.
“We’ve got some good people in the club,” he said.
The city has periodic tournaments over the years but this is the second for the Classic.
“It’s going to be a big tournament,” said Houghton, with organizers expecting competitors from across Western Canada and perhaps even Montana.
Houghton has wrestled for 40 years and earned bronze and silver medals as well as gold at the 11 world championships he’s attended.
The first Classic was staged in 2020 but COVID-19 restrictions put the second on hold.
The tournament will have action going on two tables simultaneously with four referees making sure wrestlers follow the rules.
