Youth art exhibit on display at nature centre

By medicinehatnews on November 4, 2021.

Inspired by Nature: Youth Art Exhibition will be on display in the Community Art Gallery at the Helen Schuler Nature Centre until Nov. 13.
The exhibition showcases the mixed media works of the next generation of artists. Participating artists are between the ages of four and eighteen. They were asked to find their muse in nature and create something that will inspire others to spend more time outside. This marks the fifth youth art exhibition at the Nature Centre supported by the Rotary Club of Lethbridge East.
“We know that spending time in nature is important for everyone,” said Fran Leggett, president of Rotary Club of Lethbridge East, in a release. “We want the Inspired by Nature exhibition to provide a fun way to celebrate youth who explore the outdoors, reflect on their experiences, and encourage others to do the same.”
The Nature Centre’s Community Art Gallery showcases nature, science and environmentally-themed displays which run for approximately 6 – 8 weeks. The space provides emerging and established artists from the region the opportunity to participate in developing exhibitions for display at the Nature Centre.
Every year the Nature Centre invites community members to submit Expressions of Interest for the Community Art Gallery. Artists and community groups interested in booking the Art Gallery for an exhibition should prepare an Expression of Interest and submit it to Anna Larney, Facility Rental Coordinator at the Helen Schuler Nature Centre. Expressions of Interest submitted before November 15 of the current year will be considered for exhibition during the following calendar year.
The current main gallery exhibition features Built for Life in the Prairies, celebrating wildlife of the grasslands with an inside look at how these remarkable species not only survive, but thrive in one of the planet’s most extreme and open environments. The next main gallery exhibit will be Snakes Alive starting in December 2021.
The Nature Centre’s current winter hours of operation are Tuesday through Sunday (closed Mondays) from 1:00 p.m. to 4:00 p.m.
