Police have arrested a second suspect in relation to an incident last week in which a shot was fired on the city’s southside.
Police had issued a warrant for the arrest of Nicholas Rodney Scout, a couple of days after a police officer heard what he believed to be a gunshot while he was responding to a car collision at about 3:15 p.m. Sept. 20 in the 2200 block of 7 Avenue South.
Witnesses confirmed a man fired a rifle then fled on foot. The area was cordoned off, leading to the arrest of 27-year-old Rauiri McGinnity of Lethbridge. A firearm was also recovered.
Police said a man was involved in a confrontation with another individual known to him, and the man fired a shot in the direction of a vehicle leaving the area.
A couple of days later police issued an update stating they were looking for 37-year-old Scout, who is charged with assault with a weapon and pointing a firearm.
Scout’s matter was in Lethbridge provincial court Tuesday, where he was assisted by duty counsel lawyer Brett Carlson. Scout, who remains in custody, also faces unrelated charges of arson and possession of stolen vehicles, and he returns to court on all charges Friday.
McGinnity, whose matter was also in court Tuesday, was previously denied bail and scheduled to return to court in a week. He is charged with careless use of a firearm, possession of a weapon for a dangerous purpose, discharging a firearm with intent, intentional and reckless discharge of a firearm, and mischief.
