Raging Grannies draw up issues at MLA office rally

They’re raging mad and the Raging Grannies tried to let Lethbridge East MLA Nathan Neudorf know it Friday.
The group gathered at his constituency office on WT Hill Boulevard South to draw attention to a wide range of issues.
Those issues, said former NDP MLA for Lethbridge East Maria Fitzpatrick, included vaccine passports, coal mining, the proposed K-Grade 6 curriculum and the UCP’s dealing with doctors and nurses.
The group was using chalk to write messages on the sidewalk in front of the strip mall where Neudorf’s office is located as well as directly outside the doors to the building housing that office.
They also drew a hopscotch game where those in attendance were encouraged to write messages about issues in the spaces.
The group was small but determined to let the MLA, who did not appear while The Herald was present, know what was on their minds.
“He needs to be speaking out to his caucus and his government to say you need to take stronger measures. They put the mask mandate back in and then they gave exemptions to the same people who aren’t wearing masks,” said Fitzpatrick.
“The variant is so virulent that even with masks on you can still pick it up and even if you’ve been vaccinated, you can still get sick. You may not get as sick as somebody who has to be intubated but you can still get very sick and kids have died. More and more kids under 12 are dying, kids between 12 and 19 are dying,” she added.
“There was a thousand excuses why they wouldn’t mandate everybody be vaccinated; there’s a thousand excuses why they’re not forcing people to wear their masks. The reality is if you’re not wearing a mask, you’re putting everybody at risk including yourself.”
The strain on the province’s medical system is unnecessary, said Fitzpatrick.
“It’s needless because they’ve let doctors and nurses go because they’ve been fighting with them. Why would they stay here when you’re telling them they did a great job but we need to cut our expenses?”
