The city’s first murder case of 2021 was addressed briefly Tuesday in Lethbridge provincial court, but only long enough to adjourn the matter for a month.
Calgary lawyer Gloria Froese told court she needs more time to review disclosure, and the case was adjourned to June 22.
Jade Levi Trotter, who remains in custody and was not required to attend court, is charged with one count of second-degree murder and one count of break and enter.
Police, responding to a report Feb. 8 that someone was screaming for help, arrived at an apartment building in the 1200 block of 4 Avenue South and found the body of 65-year-old Glenn Lofthouse. Police arrested Trotter the following day at a residence in the 1100 block of 11 Street South.
Police reported that the suspect and victim knew each other, and the alleged murder was over a property dispute. Police also recovered a weapon they believe was used to kill Lofthouse.
