New temporary lanes are being added around Great Bear Boulevard West as construction continues in the area.
The City said motorists travelling in the area of McMaster Boulevard, Macleod Drive and Mt. Burke Boulevard West would have access to the new temporary lanes starting today.
This road project is required for the construction of the new Fire Station #5 in west Lethbridge. According to the City, these temporary lanes will allow for north and south traffic to continue on McMaster Boulevard, preventing added congestion on University Drive which is also under construction. The new temporary lanes can also accommodate emergency vehicles when needed. Pedestrian access will also be accommodated through this construction area, the City said. And residents are asked to carefully follow the posted signage to ensure the safety of both workers and pedestrians.
The temporary lanes are expected to be in place for about a month. The City warned this change may cause a slowdown in traffic through the area, and asked motorists to plan for extra time when travelling through the construction zone.
