Annual fundraiser to assist CKXU

From March 15-22, CKXU 88.3 FM is celebrating its week-long radio-telethon fundraiser, FUNdrive!

FUNdrive is the time of year where CKXU collects donations from generous listeners and supporters in order to maintain general operations, fund capital projects, build resources in the community and grow as an organization. This year’s theme is “Legends of the Radio Realm,” a fun take on medieval fantasy. Over the course of the week of fundraising, CKXU shines a spotlight on celebrating its volunteers, the vast network of local partnerships with businesses and organizations, and the value of donor support. We achieve this through specialty programming and events related to our theme.

The donations towards this year’s FUNdrive will be going toward a brand new, custom-built website. The fundraising initiative for this capital project was started with last year’s FUNdrive campaign.

“Over the years, CKXU has seen a number of versions of it’s website,” says Aaron Trozzo, CKXU executive director. “It’s always been built and maintained by the station’s volunteers. We are now at a time in the organization’s life where it becomes crucial to take the next step, and build a website that plays a more effective role at CKXU, and in the community.”

The new website will capitalize on improved functionality of existing features, build upon accessibility and navigation, and will be completely rebranded. Some new and exciting attributes include making podcasting possible for every show on CKXU. With podcasting, listeners will be able to access recent episodes of their favourite radio programming on CKXU whenever they choose. The website will also be designed to receive digital musical submissions from artists from across the world – over time this will help facilitate the creation of a huge database of music for CKXU volunteers to access.

CKXU has seen much success with capital project based fundraising campaigns in recent years. Between 2013-16, CKXU canvassed the public for donations to build infrastructure to boost its broadcasting strength from 100 watts to 3000 watts. This project came to completion in early 2019 and is a landmark achievement for CKXU, and the community as a whole.

“We worked for five years to plan, fundraise, and execute the signal increase project, making our FM broadcast accessible to all of Lethbridge, as well as serving the greater Southern Alberta Region,” says Trozzo. “This project simply would not have been possible without the generous support of our donors during FUNdrive.”
