The cost of natural gas will fall in June for city utility customers, it was announced with new rates on Monday.

Hatters will be charged $1.93 for each gigajoule used during the month, down from $2.32 in May.

That rate follows the cost of gas purchased for resale by the city in a rolling average, plus a 7-cent per gigajoule premium.

Power will remain at a 7-cent per kilowatt hour floor price for the quarter as determined under an interim rate policy in late 2023.

It follows the average wholesale power price forecast on the Alberta open market, which at present sits at 4.5 cents per kilowatt hour. The next update to the rate is expected July 1.
