As the Downtown Utility and Surface Upgrade Project nears completion, Sixth Avenue and Third Street SE are once again open to the public.

As of Thursday morning, the roads are once again open to traffic. Construction work completed includes top-lift paving and a mid-block crossing on the 500 block of Third Street SE, and upgraded underground infrastructure and road restructuring.

Minor work on boulevards adjacent to the roadway will continue as the final steps of the project, which is anticipated to be completed in early June. Motorist and pedestrian access will be fully maintained, but pedestrians are asked to proceed with caution when walking by any remaining work areas.

The City of Medicine Hat thanked residents and business owners for their patience and understanding throughout the entirety of this project.

The free public parking spaces at the Transit Terminal Parkade will be available until June 13, when allowances will return to normal. The parkade continues to offer its standard free two- and four-hour parking stalls, permitted stalls and free parking after 6 p.m. and on weekends.

Medicine Hat Transit has also returned to its normal access and boarding locations within the Transit Terminal Parkade.
