asmith@medicinehatnews.com While a new furry friend is still not the ideal last-minute Christmas gift, for those who want to give an animal the gift of a new family this December, the SPCA is once again hosting its Animal Christmas Party. On the final day that adoptions are permitted, Dec 14, the Medicine Hat SPCA will open its doors from noon to 4 p.m, allowing attendees to see the current animal residents, as well as get a closer look at the shelter itself. “We do ask, if you can, to bring a donation for the animals, so we can spoil them. On Christmas, we try to fill all their stockings with food, with toys and treats and we just have a party,” said shelter director Stacey Fettig. The aim of the event is simply to bring the community together, to help support the shelter, enjoy a bit of holiday cheer and potentially send a few final animals home with their new families for the holidays before they close off adoptions for Christmas. Hot chocolate will be provided for human guests, as well as a few raffle prizes, said Fettig, to hopefully entice visitors to make this holiday special for those at the shelter. 7
