A Havre, Mont. woman has pleaded guilty to lunging at the cockpit controls of the plane she was travelling in last year, according to the state’s U.S. Attorney’s office.

Tracy Lynn Eagleman, aka Tracy Badmoccasin, 36, pleaded guilty to interfering with an aircraft in flight after causing the plane to swerve on the runway during a landing at Havre Airport on March 21, 2023.

She faces a US$250,000 fine and three years of probation when sentencing takes place in December.

Court documents allege Eagleman was a passenger on a small passenger plane as it made a final approach into Havre. About 16 kilometres out, Eagleman stood up and started yelling but was calmed by the captain and first officer.

However, just as the plane touched down, Eagleman lunged forward from her seat and hit the throttle for one of the two engines, causing it to accelerate and turn on the runway.

The plane was travelling an estimated 75 knots per hour, about 80 mph or about 115 kph, but the crew regained control of the plane and stopped it on the tarmac.
