25th annual Beef Pen show gets underway today

The Medicine Hat Exhibition & Stampede’s annual Beef Pen show is gearing up for a ‘bull’ weekend of activities. The 25th rendition of the show and Cowboy Christmas Tradeshow returns to the Cypress Centre with two days of showings and loads of cattle to go around. Today’s schedule opens at 2 p.m. with the cattle viewing and the Cowboy Christmas opening. At 6 p.m. is the popular steak sampling followed by the purebred breeders commercial open heifer show, purebred heifer show and the commercial open heifer show. Saturday kicks off with the free pancake breakfast at 8 a.m. followed by 4H shows starting at 9 a.m., the same time the Cowboy Tradeshow opens up. Saturday’s 4H shows include the open heifer class, bred heifer class, steer class and team grooming at the junior, intermediate and senior levels. Later that day, at 1 p.m., is the commercial bred heifer show, which features the purebred heifers breeder showcase, purebred bulls breeder showcase, purebred bull pen show and cattleman’s choice bull show. The Cowboy Christmas Tradeshow is open today from 2-8:30 p.m. and 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. on Saturday, featuring 50 vendors. 8-7
