Group of local cement truck drivers looking to join union

https://www.medicinehatnews.com@MedicineHatNews A union drive aims to bring a handful of cement truck drivers in Medicine Hat under the same umbrella as their counterparts in the province. The Teamsters Local No. 362 have applied to the Alberta Labour Relations Board to become the bargaining agent for six drivers at the Burnco plant in Medicine Hat. The union, which represents the company’s drivers in Calgary, Lethbridge and Red Deer, made the application on Aug. 21 to certify mixer drivers based at the Medicine Hat shop. An administrative hearing into the matter is scheduled for Sept. 6. The same union represents Hallcon crew drivers, security guards, armoured car drivers and airport screeners in Medicine Hat employed by Garda, as well as manufacturing workers at the Certainteed fibreglass insulation plant in Redcliff. 6-5
