A high stream flow advisory for the Seven Persons Creek remained in effect Wednesday, as well as the Piegan Creek flowing northward out of the Cypress Hills, as warmer weather hastens melting in the snowpack.
No flooding is expected, but ice and blocked culverts bring the potential of pushing water overland.
Authorities in Montana also warned that flood advisories could remain in place on the Milk River near Havre for the remainder of the week.
On Wednesday, the St. Mary’s River Irrigation District planned a small release of water from Murray Lake to clear a spillway into the Seven Persons system that terminates in Medicine Hat.
It will also divert water into the Bullshead canal where operators have cleared canals over several weeks.
On April 9, the County of Forty Mile reported flooding along Highways 61 and 879, and some areas north of Highway 3, saying the situation was stable but warning against driving over inundated roadway.
In Montana, the Milk River near Harlem rose 15 feet to start the week, but was expected to crest Wednesday, according to the U.S. National Weather Service office in Great Falls.
