https://www.medicinehatnews.com@MedicineHatNews Police have seized more than a pound of fentanyl among $135,000 worth of drugs and cash on July 6, according to a release from Medicine Hat Police Service on Thursday. Authorities allege that two men were transporting the narcotics near Brooks when police executed a “planned traffic stop” and searched their vehicle. A further search of a residence in Empress, Alta., found additional drugs, bringing the total seizure to 700 grams of fentanyl, 1,100 prescription pills, a small quantity of cocaine and an amount of GBH, commonly called the date rape drug, and $15,400 in cash. Devonshire, 49, of Medicine Hat, and Edward Nicholson, 55, of Empress, are each charged with possessing drugs for the purpose of trafficking, possession of the proceeds of crime. Nicholson is further charged with breaching a release order. He remains in custody and is next due to appear in court on July 27. The seven-month investigation led by the ALERT organized crime unit included work from the Medicine Hat and Calgary Police Services, along with the Oyen and Brooks RCMP, and Financial Transactions and Reports Analysis Centre of Canada. 7
