Hatters can expect to hear who the new acting city manager is sometime on Tuesday.
City council members met in a special session late on Monday afternoon to discuss the personnel issue. An initial closed session was scheduled to give way to an open portion where a discussion would be ratified.
That comes after the three-month contract for interim city manager Merete Heggelund is set to expire today, June 14.
She indicated last week that she would not be willing to extend her time in the role that opened up in January when previous city manager Bob Nicolay suddenly retired.
At that time, a rotation of city senior managing directors took on the duties for about six weeks.
Towne Square opens
A grand opening for the new Towne Square event space in the city’s centre is set to take place in a noon-hour ceremony on Tuesday.
A initial schedule of events for the square released at Monday’s public services committee meeting states that a Stampede breakfast will be held there July 28.
This weekend, the Ride Don’t Hide event to promote mental health will open the space, followed by a street hockey tournament (June 24) and ArtWalk (July 9). A reconciliation event is planned for the early fall.
Administrators also said Monday sea-can containers will be painted in the near future, and are available for short-term rental. The space will also be the site of a digital parking payment pilot project.
