A stolen car, stolen guns and Strathmore are the similarities between two cases of early morning firearm robberies at Medicine Hat area businesses in the last month, but authorities are not saying anymore for the time being.

On Monday, Brooks RCMP told the local media they pulled over a stolen car on that morning which contained a number of stolen rifles, telling the Brooks Bulletin the guns originated from a break-in at a gun store in Medicine Hat the day before on Sunday, June 5. That was previously not disclosed to the public.

Medicine Hat police confirmed to the News that an unnamed local business was broken into at 5:35 a.m. that morning, and guns taken. They now believe all the firearms and ammunition taken are accounted for, but stated no other information would be released until the person is formally charged.

Brooks Mounties stated that a Calgary man is in custody after they tracked a car stolen in Strathmore to a Newell County road north of Brooks. A search turned up the weapons, they told the Bulletin.

The details sound familiar, because it is the second such robbery in four weeks.

RCMP in Redcliff reported that on May 5, a stolen car was used to smash through an overhead door at the Canadian Gun Hub in Dunmore, after which thieves grabbed a number of guns and drove off.

On May 12, Mounties arrested Josh Munro, 21, in Strathmore and later found guns and quantity of cocaine at the home in the town where he was staying.

Munro faced a first appearance in Medicine Hat provincial court on May 31, and was remanded in custody.
