Strathmore man facing several charges for gun club robbery

A 21-year-old Strathmore man is in custody and facing charges relating to the May 5 break and enter and robbery of a Dunmore gun club, Strathmore RCMP report.

Josh Munroe of Strathmore, was arrested May 12 following a collaborative investigation by Redcliff and Strathmore RCMP.

Redcliff RCMP requested assistance in locating Munroe, a then suspect in the robbery, after receiving information he may be residing in Strathmore.

Strathmore General Investigation Section members located Munroe in the 300 block of Highland Circle in Strathmore. An on-foot pursuit ensued, during which Munroe was temporarily out of sight of GIS members. Munroe was relocated by GIS members and a search warrant was obtained for the property he was believed to be staying at.

Following execution of the search warrant, GIS members seized drugs, cash and ammunition. Also seized was a backpack discarded by Munroe while he attempted to evade police, which contained three handguns, one restricted rifle, cocaine, ammunition and more than $8,000 cash.

Munroe is facing 12 charges, which include break and enter with intent to steal a firearm, unlawful possession of a firearm, possession of a firearm obtained by the commission of an offence, possession of a firearm/ammunition in contravention of a prohibition order, wear disguise with intent to commit an indictable offence, unsafe storage/handling of a firearm, carrying a concealed firearm, possession of a restricted/prohibited firearm with ammunition, possession of restricted/prohibited firearms for the purpose of trafficking, possession of a firearm with serial number removal, three counts of possession of property obtained by a crime and possession of a controlled substance for the purpose of trafficking.

Additional charges may result.
