https://www.medicinehatnews.com@MedicineHatNews German utility developer Greencells says it is prepared to move strongly into the Canadian renewable power sector with a project queue that includes a sizable, near-term solar field in southeastern Alberta. “Estuary Solar” would be located north of MacNeil, Alta., in the far northeast of Cypress County, and would have a capacity to produce 200 megawatts of power in peak conditions. The company announced in April that it was in “advanced stages” of talks to sell a 75 per cent stake in the project which could reach the “ready to build” stage by the end of 2022. It has also bought a stake in another unnamed solar project in Alberta, according to a company release, and is currently evaluating other projects totalling 1.3 gigawatts of capacity in Canada through a joint venture with developer IndyGen Utility Ltd. “Greencells Group’s development business has traditionally focused on OECD countries with high credit ratings, a reliable regulatory framework, and stable political conditions,” said Andreas Hoffman, the CEO of the global firm that is headquartered in Saarbrucken, Germany. The company has major operations in the United Kingdom among 130 facilities worldwide, and offices in Asia, the Middle East and the U.S. 8
