Five local care facilities have COVID outbreaks

By Medicine Hat News on May 18, 2022.

Twenty long-term care, supportive living and other facilities in the South zone are experiencing outbreaks of COVID-19, according to a May 11 update from the government of Alberta.

That number includes five facilities in Medicine Hat – Riverview Care Centre, Cypress View Foundation, Masterpiece Southland Meadows, Meadowlands and Medicine Hat Remand Centre.

Outbreaks at acute care and continuing care facilities are publicly reported when there are two or more cases of COVID-19 present, indicating that transmission within the facility has occurred. At shelters, correctional facilities and group homes, outbreaks are reported when the case number reaches five.

Outbreaks are declared over after four weeks have passed since the last case was identified.

The provincial website states case numbers for outbreaks at specific facilities are not provided as they can change frequently and rapidly.
