NE residents warned of gas flaring on Friday at Unit 17 power plant

kking@medicinehatnews.com The City of Medicine Hat is notifying residents of controlled intermittent gas flaring scheduled for Friday at the Unit 17 power generation station located west of Box Springs Road and 52nd Street NE. Gas flaring will start around 8 a.m. and is expected to continue throughout the morning. A 100-foot flue stack will be utilized for the flaring and will emits flames as tall as 30 to 40 feet. Sounds related to the flaring may also be heard. Gas flaring is a necessary step following construction at the site, as it removes particles and prepares for the plant’s first firing. The city assures residents there is no cause for concern. 5-4
