After being shut down since October, the Something for Everyone Market is coming back to Pioneer Village in the Hat on July 7 and every second Wednesday afterward this summer.

The owner of the market says there are still some specifics to get straightened out, which will depend on if Alberta hits the 70% threshold of people aged 12 and up with at least one dose of a COVID-19 vaccine – triggering the third and final stage of the province’s re-opening plan.

“I so hope for wide open; I want to get rid of the one-way traffic,” said Monica Kallis. “My whole slogan is, ‘meet, mingle and sell your wear’ and the vendors and myself, we miss talking to people and talking to the customers and actually engaging with them instead of getting them right into shop and getting them out so we can get the flow of traffic going.”

However, Kallis says if Alberta isn’t in Stage 3 by July 7, she will have COVID-19 protocols in place.

“If the restrictions stay in place, we will have one-way traffic and the map layout is done up on my website, somethingforeveryonemarket.com … one way in, one way out through the park. It’s going to be really good either way,” she said.

The market is scheduled for 3-7 p.m. each Wednesday with 25-35 vendors – some market regulars and some new. There will be homemade soap for sale, food trucks parked to serve lunch and dinner, as well as Integrated Youth Services Navigator, a new non-profit organization, offering mental health resources to youth.

Kallis says she is excited to get back together with vendors because they haven’t worked in a long time. She adds the event industry has been hit hard by the pandemic and many vendors need the community support.

“All of the vendors and myself, we totally appreciate the support from everybody in Medicine Hat and we just ask that they continue coming to these events and supporting local,” said Kallis.
