22-turbine wind farm near Seven Persons awaits regulatory OK

By Medicine Hat News on June 10, 2021.

A plan to erect 22 wind turbines in a renewable energy facility near Seven Persons is now before utility regulators for approval.

The Alberta Utilities Commission is considering a final application to build “Winnifred Wind” and will accept written submissions from anyone affected until July 9.

The wind farm would be built on leased sites on privately owned land in the County of Forty Mile and Cypress County by Enerfin Energy Company of Canada.

The array and underground collector network would cover 45 quarter-sections located south of Highway 523, south east of Rattlesnake Lake and north of Seven Persons, east of Range Road 80.

In total, 22 turbines mounted on 114-metre towers would produce a total of 122 megawatts of electricity in peak conditions. That would be sent onto the Alberta electricity grid through a new line built to connect with the Altalink system in Cypress County. That line would run along Township Road 114 then Highway 3 to the Bullshead substation near Medicine Hat and would be approved separately.
