COVID-19 update for May 4, 2021

Active cases:

Medicine Hat: 235 active cases
Cypress County: 32 active cases
Brooks: 41 active cases
County of Forty Mile No. 8: Seven active cases
County of Newell: Seven active cases
Lethbridge: 442 active cases

The 235 active cases in Medicine Hat is the highest active case load in the city since the start of the pandemic, increasing by four from yesterday’s numbers. There have been a total of 973 cases in the city, including 720 recoveries and 18 deaths since the start of the pandemic. The Hat currently has a rate of 345 cases per 100,000 people.

In the past 24 hours, 1,743 new cases of COVID-19 were identified for a total of 23,623 active cases in the province, which is the most active cases in the province since the beginning of the pandemic.

671 people are in hospital, including 150 people in intensive care.

There were nine additional COVID-related deaths reported on Tuesday.

876 additional variant cases have been identified, bringing the provincial total to 14,728 active variant cases which make up 62.3 per cent of of Alberta’s current active cases.
