Robert Hoefman hopes to appeal

By Medicine Hat News on April 27, 2021.

A man convicted of the first-degree murder of James Satre outside his home as part of a million-dollar extortion plot is applying to have his appeal heard at the highest court in the province.

Robert Hoefman, 59, was convicted by a Medicine Hat jury last month and sentenced to a life sentence with no eligibility for parole for 25 years after being found guilty of the random stabbing of Satre in 2017 in furtherance of an extortion plot against a city businessman.

Hoefman is applying to have his case heard by the Alberta Court of Appeal on the grounds his Charter rights were breached by police and the verdict was unreasonable.

According to the application, Hoefman is currently seeking Legal Aid and wishes to have a new jury trial.
